Elisha ‘Eli’ Griffin (they/he) is a Master’s student at the University of Pennsylvania in the Animal Welfare & Behavior program. Eli holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Behavior and Minor in Cultural Anthropology from Bucknell University. They are currently working as a Behavioral Management Technician at Johns Hopkins University. With their team they work to improve the lives of non-human animals being used for biomedical research and help researchers form stronger and more empathetic relationships with them.

Their prior research has focused on comparative cognition, human and non-human animal behavioral ecology, and improving non-human animal welfare. Their research interests are on non-human animal depictions in media, urban ecology, and human/non-human animal interactions, especially considering human ethnicity and race. Outside of academia, they engage in a wide variety of hobbies, most recently woodworking and urban foraging. They live with a female cat called Kevin.
