This project focuses on the trends over time in the animal horror subgenre. Media depicting animals, especially horror, has had substantial impact on public perceptions of animals. As understanding public perception is important for conservation and welfare legislation, so is more research into animals in media.

Animal horror is a subgenre that is not focused on prominently in horror media or anthrozoology. Currently, most of the literature focusing on animal horror is qualitative in nature. At present, only one other study has looked at animal horror quantitatively (Chiacchio & Pigoni, 2022). This project seeks to expand the current available data by analyzing the species of animal antagonist and any modifications they may have undergone in the plot to justify their antagonism towards humans.
